Apicella Named Head Softball Coach at Adelphi University
HUNTINGTON, NY — Jamie Apicella has been named head softball coach at Adelphi University, bringing more than two decades of championship-level coaching experience and a proven record of developing successful student-athletes to the Panthers’ program.
In addition to his new position at Adelphi, Apicella will remain with the Beast Organization in his current role as Director of Softball Operations and Player Development.
Since joining Team Beast, Apicella has overseen the hiring of the organization’s softball coaches and trainers while creating and implementing its comprehensive softball curriculum. He also serves as a roving instructor for every team within the organization and coordinates all practices, private lessons, and tournament schedules.
Apicella has also played an instrumental role in guiding Team Beast players and their families through the college recruiting process as the organization’s college advisement coordinator. Since the inception of Team Beast Softball in 2022, he has achieved a 100% college commitment rate among eligible players seeking opportunities to continue their careers at the collegiate level.
Before joining Team Beast, Apicella spent 21 seasons as the head softball coach at LIU Post, where he compiled an outstanding career record of 826-338-2. Under Apicella’s leadership, the Pioneers captured nine East Coast Conference championships and qualified for the NCAA Division II Championship 19 times. During his final season at the helm, Apicella guided LIU Post to a program-record 51 victories and the program’s fifth appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championship.
Throughout his tenure, Apicella mentored 20 All-Americans and 124 all-conference selections, including 33 conference Players of the Year and one National Player of the Year. He and his LIU Post staff were recognized as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Coaching Staff of the Year seven times.
Before beginning his distinguished coaching career, Apicella played collegiate baseball at LIU Post. He was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 1994 Major League Baseball Draft.
In recognition of his accomplishments as a player and coach, Apicella is a member of the LIU Post Baseball Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Smithtown Hall of Fame in 2008.
